: Not driven it enough, or oil is still clean? Cuz my Mobil1 comes out black after 3k miles. It looks better than some oil... but if definitely isn't ANYWHERE as clean as when it went in... : Later, : KaZ no matter what oil you use, it'll turn black. Black oil is inevitable :) You can go by looks; you have to have it analyzed. The main things I look at on the analysis is: viscosity water % fuel % oxidation % nox % total base number From what I've seen on the Maxima forum (they keep a spreadsheet of all the oil tests), Amsoil TBN stays around 10 and higher whereas Mobil hovers around 4-5. My last oil test I put on 7981 miles and it came out perfect. That oil had roughly 20-25 autocross runs. My current oil has about 30-35 autocross runs so it hasn't been babied, either. I'll be changing it out shortly since the 02 season starts in May (but I have an event with the local Vette club on 4-27 so I'll do it before then).
